Best Tech Meetups and Networking Events in San Diego
The most active tech meetups, developer groups, and networking events in San Diego for software engineers, founders, and tech enthusiasts.
One of the most underrated parts of San Diego’s tech scene is its meetup culture. The community is smaller than SF or LA, which means it’s actually easier to meet people and build real relationships. Here are the groups worth showing up to.
Developer Meetups
- San Diego JavaScript (SDJS): one of the most active groups. Monthly talks on the 2nd Wednesday, plus a Slack. sandiegojs.org
- San Diego Python: monthly talks on the 4th Thursday, plus a weekly online co-working session. A mix of data science and web folks. sandiegopython.org
- More on Meetup.com: search for San Diego groups covering .NET, mobile, machine learning, and Ruby. Activity levels vary, so check the last event date before you commit an evening.
For a single calendar of what’s happening, sdtechscene.org aggregates tech events across the county and is the closest thing SD has to a canonical listing.
Startup & Entrepreneurship Events
San Diego Startup Week is the biggest annual event for the founder and operator crowd. The 2026 edition runs November 2 to 6 downtown. EvoNexus, the region’s main tech incubator, hosts pitch nights and demo days. Connect and San Diego Venture Group run recurring events that are good for meeting people at established companies.
- San Diego Startup Week (Nov 2 to 6, 2026): the largest startup event in SD. sandiegostartupweek.org
- EvoNexus demo days: incubator portfolio presentations, open to the public
- Connect and San Diego Venture Group: investor and founder networking throughout the year
Hardware & Maker Scene
San Diego has a solid hardware and maker community, thanks in part to the defense tech presence. Fab Lab San Diego in Barrio Logan provides member access to CNC machines, 3D printers, and laser cutters, and hosts workshops. Meetup also lists embedded systems and IoT groups, though schedules come and go.
Most SD meetups post on Meetup.com and Eventbrite. Follow SDJS, San Diego Python, and Startup Week there to stay current. Several groups went quiet during COVID and revived later with hybrid formats, so a dead-looking page doesn’t always mean a dead group.
Where Meetups Happen
Most tech meetups rotate between a handful of venues: EvoNexus locations, downtown co-working spaces, and company offices in Sorrento Valley and UTC. Check each event listing, since hosts change month to month.
